CM Punjab E-taxi Scheme 2026 apply online

Lahore and other cities in Punjab have very bad pollution and smog. Petrol and diesel cars make this pollution worse. Electric taxis do not make pollution. They are clean and good for the environment. When many people drive electric taxis, the air will become cleaner.

Driving a petrol taxi costs a lot of money because petrol is expensive. With an electric taxi, you only need to charge the battery which costs much less money. So drivers can earn more money and save more money. This is why electric taxis are better for drivers.

The government also wants to give women a chance to drive taxis. Many women do not drive taxis because they are afraid. So the government is making special programs for women drivers.

The Government of Punjab aims to promote electric vehicles eco system by distributing 1,100 electric vehicles to encourage e-mobility. Initially, it is a pilot project in District Lahore enabling to own your e-vehicle with ease through interest-free loan of 5 years installments, equity contribution and free vehicle registration by Government of Punjab.

HOW MUCH MONEY WILL YOU NEED TO PAY?

For Men: You must pay 50 percent of the price upfront. On 6 million rupees, this is 3 million rupees. The government will give you a loan for the other 3 million rupees.

For Women: You must pay 40 percent upfront. On 6 million rupees, this is 2.4 million rupees. The government will give you a loan for 3.6 million rupees. Women get a better deal.

Processing Fee: 1000 rupees only

  • Insurance: The first year insurance is paid by the government. After the first year, you must pay your own insurance. Insurance costs about 50000 to 60000 rupees per year.

Registration: The vehicle registration is free. The government pays for it.

Loan Details:

Loan Amount: The rest of the vehicle price that you do not pay upfront

Loan Period: 5 years (60 months)

Interest: Zero. You do not pay any interest. This is very important. You only pay back the exact amount you borrowed.

Monthly Payment: If you borrow 3 million rupees for 5 years with no interest, you must pay 50000 rupees per month.

Example for a man buying 6 million rupees vehicle:

Total Price: 6 million rupees

You pay upfront: 3 million rupees

Government loan: 3 million rupees

Monthly loan payment: 50000 rupees

Monthly insurance: About 5000 rupees

Electricity charging cost: About 10000 rupees per month

Total monthly cost: About 65000 rupees

Example for a woman buying 6 million rupees vehicle:

Total Price: 6 million rupees

You pay upfront: 2.4 million rupees

Government loan: 3.6 million rupees

Monthly loan payment: 60000 rupees

Monthly insurance: About 5000 rupees

Electricity charging cost: About 10000 rupees per month

Total monthly cost: About 75000 rupees

Note: Women pay more per month but less upfront. So women need less money right now.

Petrol Taxi Comparison:

With a petrol taxi, you must pay for expensive petrol every day. On a 6 million rupee petrol taxi, you pay about 10000 to 15000 rupees per day just for petrol.

With an electric taxi, you pay about 3000 to 4000 rupees per day for electricity. This is much less.

So in one month, an electric taxi driver saves about 180000 to 330000 rupees on fuel. This is a huge saving.

CHARGING STATIONS AND ELECTRICITY

Where to Charge:

The government is setting up charging stations all over Lahore and other cities. You can charge at these stations.

The charging stations are at:

  • Gas stations (some converted to have electric chargers)
  • Parking lots in city centers
  • Transport company offices (Uber, Careem offices)
  • Shopping malls
  • Hotels
  • Hospitals

The government has a plan to install 200 charging stations by the end of 2026. More stations will be added later.

Charging Cost:

  • Charging at public stations costs about 20 to 30 rupees per kilometer. This is very cheap.
  • For 80 kilometers range, one full charge costs about 1600 to 2400 rupees.
  • Compared to petrol taxi which costs 10000 to 15000 rupees for same distance.
  • Charging Times:

Fast Charging (DC): Takes 3 to 4 hours to charge fully

Normal Charging (AC): Takes 6 to 8 hours to charge fully

Usually you charge at night when you are not working. You charge overnight and then work the next day with a full battery.

Solar Powered Charging:

  • Some charging stations will use solar power. This is cheaper and cleaner for environment.
  • The government has plan to make solar charging stations in every district.
