The CM Punjab Rahmat Card (also spelled Rehmat Card) is a flagship social welfare programme officially inaugurated on May 1, 2026, by Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif. Backed by a budget of Rs. 5 billion drawn from the provincial Zakat Fund, it is one of the most ambitious social safety initiatives in Punjab's history.
Unlike older welfare schemes that offered small monthly handouts, the Rahmat Card is built on a philosophy of economic empowerment. The goal is not just to feed a family for a month — it is to give widows the financial capital to start a small business, educate their children, and break free from the cycle of poverty permanently.
The programme operates under the concept of Sarkari Kafalat (State Patronage) — meaning the government takes on the role of the guardian for families that have lost their breadwinner. In its first phase, the Rahmat Card scheme will support 50,000 households across Punjab, with future phases planned to expand coverage further.
The programme is also commonly known as:
- CM Punjab Bewa Card (for widows)
- CM Punjab Yateem Card / Yateem Kafalat Card (for orphan children)
All these names refer to the same unified programme — the Rahmat Card.
